ABOUT ME

Having worked on industrial color innovation for 25 years, it may be an understatement to say that I have a passion for color. What I like most about it, is that it brings together science (physics & mathematics, reading articles), creativity (color design, art, innovation) and application (the happy customer who is helped or inspired).
Over the years, I received several awards for my work in color science, both internally and internationally. This resulted to being promoted to one of the only handful of senior scientist positions within AkzoNobel in 2019. And externally, perhaps the largest recognitions for being a global authority on color science, and especially on effect coatings and texture, came when the authors of the main textbooks on color science asked me to contribute to Billmeyer and Saltzmann's Principles of Color Technology (most recent edition), the Encyclopaedia of Color Science and Technology (2019 and 2013 editions) and in Pioneers of Color Science (2020).
Obviously such recognition is the result of the collaborative work of a large number of people. I truly enjoy working with a team of enthusiastic people of different backgrounds, each bringing their own unique insights to the table. Whether determining the project scope with customers, brainstorming technical solutions or discussing elements with peer scientists, it is a pleasure to be able to develop new color solutions or to investigate and develop new color algorithms. .
I have a strong feeling of responsibility, your tasks are dear to me. My approach is always calm and rational steering towards the agreed project goal. Very solution-driven and extremely determined and persistent, probably guided by my background in theoretical physics and chemistry (PhD). I love helping customers to optimize their color processes in terms of accuracy, speed and/or costs. That is done by a deep dive into the current processes and by making an inventory of options for improvement, together with the customer. Then we select the most promising options together, investigate those and implement the working solution.
My experience and values
In those 25 years I learned that in every project it is crucial to understand the true demands of the customer right from the start, and to keep the customer part of the investigation and development process. Being a color scientist, my core value is reliability. That means I do not promise the impossible. Instead, by having a deep conversation with the customer about the real needs it almost always turns out that achieving the actual goal is achievable.
